As part of their yearlong Bat Mitzvah Program coordinated by Morah Sari Attaeich-Rohr, our Grade 6 girls lead various Chessed projects throughout the year. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the students are running a honey sale and will donate 100% of proceeds to relief efforts in Houston.  The fundraiser is ongoing at school and the $8.00 jars may also be ordered through Elementary Director of Judaic Studies Jordana Levy.

High School Judaic Studies Department Head and Dean of Jewish Life Rabbi Eddie Shostak is also spearheading a Tzedakah campaign for the cause. In an email to High School students, Rabbi Shostak encouraged them to “reach out and make a difference” by reciting Tehillim, sending chizuk messages in support of victims and giving Tzedakah. The funds from both initiatives will be donated to the Robert M. Beren Academy’s Hurricane Harvey Tuition Assistance Campaign.

“RMBA is a Jewish day school in Houston very similar to HA,” wrote Rabbi Shostak.  “I’ve been in touch with their Head of School and many students and their families have lost everything. They will struggle to pay tuition in the coming months as they work to rebuild their homes and lives.  All funds collected with be matched 1:1.”

Kol Hakavod to our students and staff for helping to make Rosh Hashana a little sweeter for those who have lost so much.
