According to the MELS – Quebec Ministry of Education program, Kindergarten is a special place, where children continue to develop while increasing their knowledge, acquiring new learning strategies and forming relationships with other children their age and with adults.
This social experience allows them to discover themselves as individuals, become aware of their potential, structure their personality and gradually increase their autonomy. Kindergarten is also a place of intellectual stimulation, where children discover the pleasure of learning and lay the foundation for future learning. The richness and variety of their experience allows them to increase their understanding of the world, to construct their knowledge and to become acquainted with the various subject areas of elementary school through exposure to their various languages. The general objective of the program is to enable 5– and 6- year-olds to develop psychomotor, affective, social, language, cognitive and methodological competencies related to self – knowledge, living in society and communication. With the support of the teacher, children take part in learning situations drawn from their world of play and their life experiences and prepare to be active and thoughtful students. At Hebrew Academy, the Judaic Studies curriculum is central to the Kindergarten experience. The Judaic program includes the following:
- Language – vocabulary
- Alef–Bet readiness
- Jewish identity with Israel, with community
- Parshat Hashavua
- Music and movement
Jewish and General studies are integrated. Projects, themes, play activities, and learning centers are the order of the day.
