Israel is always in the consciousness of the Hebrew Academy students. From our youngest students to our graduates and beyond, our mission to support Medinat Yisroel is clearly and proudly articulated! Our connection as a People to the land is interwoven through the entire curriculum and is one of the key factors which defines who we are as a school and distinguishes us as an institution.
We live by the words of the great Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi who said “לִבִּי בְמִזְרָח וְאָנֹכִי בְּסוֹף מַעֲרָב – My heart is in the east and I am in the West.” The principal of עם ישראל – ארץ” ישראל – תורת ישראל – The Nation of Israel, the Land of Israel according to the Torah of Israel,” guides us as we navigate the challenging definition of Modern Zionism.
Activities, Celebrations & Advocacy
Students and teachers demonstrate their connection to Israel through a broad range of special activities. Yom HaAtzmaut, Yom HaZikaron and Yom Yerushalyim are observed with passion. Whether we are reciting Hallel on Yom HaAtzmaut or crying on Yom HaZikaron, our hearts are deeply connected with Israel and the people who live there. Hebrew Academy proudly participates in all Montreal Community Rallies in support of Israel and has traveled to New York to join in Pro Israel Rallies at the United Nations. The IDF is held up as the most ethical army in the world and our Tefilot are constantly pouring from our lips for their safety and protection.
Israeli Role Models
Strengthening our student’s bond with Israel is the constant interaction with Israeli role models. This includes our In-house Kollel Torah MiTzion which boasts two married families who are daily role models. They are joined by three Hesder Yeshiva graduates who through the Kollel interact with the students regularly. In addition we host three B’not Sherut (young women serving their Israeli National Service), one who is exclusively there for our high school girls. Finally Hebrew Academy is the operational center for the Montreal Bnei Akiva religious Zionist youth organization.
Hebrew Language
Hebrew language instruction brings the spirit of Eretz Yisrael into our classrooms every day. In elementary school using the Tal Am curriculum and in high school through supplementary materials, our deep connection to Israel is constantly strengthened.
Year-In-Israel and Beyond
The deep connection that our students have with Israel further matures throughout their High School years culminating with many of our graduates spending a year or more studying in Israeli Yeshivot, Seminaries or universities. Many of these young men and women choose to make Aliya and continue their studies and eventually build their lives in Israel.
